Foot Tickler Back in Action
by Fiona Blake
Oakfield, CT-Old timers in town will no doubt remember the days when folks left their doors and windows unlocked at night. They'll also remember how everything started to change when an unidentified man started sneaking into homes at night and tickling the feet of the people asleep inside. It's been nearly 20 years since the Foot Tickler has been heard from, but Beth Mulcahy of Wolf Den Road says she woke up Tuesday night to find a gaunt man in corduroys, a flannel shirt, and baseball cap tickling her feet. The man fled through the open front door--the same way, police suspect, he entered. Like many other people in Oakfield, Mulcahy says she's heard the stories about the Foot Tickler ever since she moved here, but never knew anyone he had actually tickled. Newcomers may have never even heard of the Foot Tickler at all. Katelyn Belzer, 16, of Main Street certainly had not heard of the Foot Tickler when she fell asleep last night. But she woke up shortly after falling asleep to find a man, fitting the same description as the one Mulcahy gave, tickling her feet. Belzer's father chased the intruder off with a golf club, but no one was able to identify him. Lieutenant Scott Barsky of the Oakfield Police Department says that there are no suspects in the either incident at this time. He also says the police have not ruled out the possibility that these most recent ticklings are not related to the ticklings of yesteryear. Barsky says this may just be a practical joke being played by kids in town who have heard the same stories the rest of us have. The investigation is ongoing. |
Acorns Fizzle in Playoffs
by Fiona Blake
Southington, CT- The boys' baseball team traveled to Southington on Thursday to take on the West Hartford Bobcats in CCC East LL quarter-finals. After a rousing victory over New Britain earlier in the week the team just couldn't seem to get it together long enough to make a run at the semi-finals, and they lost 5-3 A ninth inning rally looked like a possibility, when the Acorns found themselves with three men on base, two outs, and sophomore slugger Danny Sabotka up at bat. With the bleachers full and a trip to the semi-finals riding on Sabotka's shoulders he broke his post-season hitting streak (he had gone 4-4 in at bats, with one well-time home run) and struck out. Wasach Extension Approved
by Fiona Blake
Oakfield, CT- Residents of the Wasach Road turned out in force at the TPZ meeting to protest the extension of their road to make way for more houses in the five-year-old subdivision. Residents says they were under the impression their road was a permanent cul-de-sac when they moved in. The road, however, was always meant to be a temporary cul-de-sac, according to the builders and TPZ commissioners. Monday night's meeting ran until nearly midnight, as one resident after another went to the microphone to make their opinions known. Vivian Cole, 75 Wasach Rd., said, "If you approve this extension, you are voting against my children, and every child in Oakfield." The commissioners approved the extension 5-2. |
